PLAINFIELD, IL — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Ann Lambert, who nominated Casey, of Plainfield.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

We were driving down a street in Plainfield and came across a two-car accident where one of the cars was on fire and flipped over on one side. I ran out of our car to the accident and Casey came with me without hesitation. Upon approaching the burning car, we yelled to ask if there was anyone in the car — bystanders were standing around but no one was helping the people in the burning car. The couple that was in the car was yelling for help and to get them out of there. My daughter and I tried hard to open the door to help them out. The couple was able to find their way to the trunk and we helped get them out the trunk. After a minute of them getting out, the fire grew larger within the car. After another minute, the fire truck and ambulance were there to assist in getting the fire out and helping the victims. I was so proud of my daughter for wanting to help and not be scared to help innocent lives. She was courageous for doing what she did. If it wasn't for us, the outcome wouldn’t of been the same.
