West Nile Virus Detected In Mosquitos In DuPage County

DUPAGE COUNTY — West Nile Virus (WNV) was detected in mosquito traps in DuPage County for the first time in 2024, according to county health officials.

The samples were detected on June 18 in Bartlett and on June 27 in Wood Dale.

As we get deeper into summer, residents are encouraged to take precautions to help prevent the spread of WNV. Health department officilas recommend:

  • Staying indoors from dusk to dawn, when mosquitoes are more active
  • Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, shoes and socks when outdoors
  • Wear mosquito repellant that contains DEET, IR 3535, oil of lemon eucalyptus or picardin
  • Rid yards of standing water sources
  • Ensure that doors and windows are well-sealed

As of July 3, no human cases West Nile Virus had been detected in DuPage County for 2024.
