Physical Therapists Ed Jones and Emily Slaven, along with physical therapy students Joel Coffman, Carl Stones, and Maggie Stratton have been invited to speak at the 2019 American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists’ Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida, on Oct. 26. Jones and Slaven are faculty members of the University of Indianapolis Krannert School of Physical Therapy where Coffman, Stones and Stratton are current Doctor of Physical Therapy students.

The group’s presentation is entitled “Generation Z: What Do You Want From Me? Manual Therapy and Today's Physical Therapy Student.” In this presentation, information about Generation Z, how they like to learn and their expectations of higher education will be discussed. Based on student feedback and current evidence, options for the best practice for learning and teaching manual therapy will be reviewed, including an innovative, online delivery model to explore and share manual therapy content. This student-driven and -created model will bring a new dimension to the teaching of manual therapy in DPT programs.

Jones is a practicing physical therapist at Community Health Network in Indianapolis. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University and a master’s in physical therapy. He earned his doctorate of health sciences in 2015 from the University of Indianapolis.
