Southwest To Discontinue Nonstop Indianapolis To D.C. Flights

Why Southwest Airlines is ditching this nonstop flight from Indianapolis International Airport.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — You have less than a month to take a nonstop flight from Indianapolis to Washington D.C.'s Reagan National Airport via Southwest Airlines. Indianapolis Business Journal reports Southwest plans to get rid of its direct flight from Indianapolis International Airport to the D.C. airport because the service isn't attracting enough passengers. IBJ said the last day of this nonstop service will be Nov. 4, just three years after the route was established.

Thankfully Indianapolis International Airport has other nonstop flight options when it comes to getting to the Washington D.C. area, whether it be to Dulles International Airport or Reagan National.

The airlines recently announced what it's calling an aviation milestone as airline officials said Southwest is becoming the first airline in North America to offer scheduled service utilizing the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, launching nine of the aircraft into service Oct. 1, and hopes to have 14 total in service by the end of the year.
