Indianapolis Mayor, Officials Kicking Off Another Pothole Attack

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett and the Department of Public Works make an Emergency Declaration surrounding another pothole blitz: Details

INDIANAPOLIS AREA -- If you haven't encountered a troublesome pothole while driving throughout the Indianapolis area, you aren't driving enough. Because of the potholes that are nearly everywhere, and the damage they do to vehicles, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett and city officials issued an Emergency Declaration Friday morning allowing the Indianapolis Department of Public Works to start giving attention to our deteriorating roadways. Mayor Hogsett and DPW officials requested millions of dollars from the Rainy Day Fund, in efforts for the Emergency Declaration to allow DPW to go beyond normal operations and put many contractors to work. According to a Tweet posted by Mayor Hogsett, the several workers will strip patching areas that are crumbling on the roads from years of repairs.

According to Mayor Hogsett, the proposal being sent to the City-County Council would allow an additional $14 for road funding, on top of the nearly $88 million budgeted for road projects in 2018.

A 'Hot Mix' asphalt plant will open for Indianapolis next week, Mayor Hogsett reports DPW said. This plant will house asphalt for the aggressive work on potholes.

According to Patch, next week's weather forecast for Indianapolis looks clear and less wet, which will help crews fix as many potholes as possible.

Mayor Hogsett ads via Twitter, "With an expected break in precipitation — beginning Monday, will order a full call-out of 20 City crews and four contract crews to utilize “hot mix” to address potholes."
