Alley Cat Saves Baby's Life

One cat's instincts saved an abandoned Russian baby.

A baby was left for dead recently in an Obninsk street (Russia).

According to a New York Post article, A homeless tabby cat of the neighborhood climbed into the box the baby had been abandoned in. The cat joined the baby, presumably to keep it warm. It also started meowing, in what seemed like a cry for help.

A local elderly woman was taking out the trash when she heard the meows, and discovered the endangered baby.

“She (the cat, named Masha by locals) is very placid and friendly, so when I heard her meowing, I thought that perhaps she had injured herself,” said Obninsk city resident Irina Lavrova. “Normally she would have come and said hello to me. You can imagine my shock when I saw her lying in a box next to a baby.”

She called an ambulance that took the baby to the hospital where the 3-month-old was determined to be healthy. The baby is now under the care of social services and the community cat is a local hero.

“Everyone in the block is very proud of her,” Lavrova said. “We have all spoiled her rotten by giving her her favorite food.”
