Here are the top stories today in New Orleans:
- The Orleans Civil District Court on Loyola Avenue has had to delay its opening yet again after a fire of unknown origin closed its doors on Feb. 12. The building will stay closed to continue repairs and evaluations. The judge for the week has moved to a different location. (WWLTV.com)
- A fatal double shooting took place on Third and Derbigny streets on Sunday night. Police arrived at the scene around 9:15 p.m. where they found two women who had been shot. One died at the scene and the other was taken to the hospital for treatment. (WDSU New Orleans)
- The organizers of the NOLaToya mayoral recall campaign group are in court arguing to lower the number of signatures needed to trigger a recall because the Orleans Parish voter registrar has allegedly neglected to keep an updated list of eligible voters. This lawsuit is ongoing while the registration now has 20 days to certify all of the signatures on the recall petition. If enough are valid the petition would be sent to Gov. John Bel Edwards, who would then have 15 days to schedule an election. (WWLTV)
