Woman Bit Man's Penis To Escape Rape Attempt, Hid For Hours: PD

The 50-year-old woman apparently met the man through the dating app "Plenty of Fish."

WESTWEGO, LA — A 50-year-old woman escaped an attempted rape by a man whom she met on a dating app by biting his penis, lunging at him when he grabbed a knife and then barricading herself with a table, according to police in Westwego, Louisiana.

The victim told police she met the man, who authorities identified as 54-year-old John Patton, through the dating app "Plenty of Fish" and the two had been talking for about a week when they arranged to meet at a daiquiri bar. Police said Patton canceled that meeting and invited the woman to his home in Westwego, just outside of Louisiana. According to police, Patton said the woman would meet him and his sister at his home.

The woman went to the home the evening of Sept. 7 around 9:45 p.m. Police say Patton asked her to walk to the end of the hallway to meet his sister.

When the woman didn't see anyone else in the home, she turned around to leave. Patton is then accused of putting his hand on her mouth and pulling her to the bedroom, according to police.

"According to the victim, Patton implied that he wanted to have sex, and out of fear she agreed, pleading for Patton not to hurt her," police said in a news release.

The victim told police Patton wanted her to perform oral sex on him and she bit his penis and ran back to the living room, police said in the news release. Police say the victim then saw Patton retrieve a knife from the kitchen at which point she lunged at him, grabbing the knife, which caused lacerations to both her hands.

According to police, the woman then barricaded herself with a table in a corner of the room and used the table to block Patton, who is accused of trying to strike her with a second knife. Police say the woman remained barricaded until she was finally released from the residence sometime after 9 a.m. the following day.

The woman went to a nearby business to call 911 and she was taken to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Police say Patton was believed to be holed up in his home at this time and authorities were unable to make contact with him for about seven hours before they used tear gas. Police say Patton then peacefully surrendered to police and was taken into custody.

He was charged with second-degree rape, aggravated sexual battery and false imprisonment/being armed with a dangerous weapon. He is being held at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center without bail.
