Maine Kayaker Missing: Coast Guard

The Coast Guard launched a search Wednesday after a kayaker said he fell into the water off the coast of Maine near Milbridge.

MILBRIDGE, ME — The Coast Guard on Wednesday launched a search for a missing kayaker of the coast of Maine. The kayaker sent out a mayday call at about 10:15 a.m. and said he fell out of his kayak near Bois Bubert Island in Milbridge. Coast Guard boats and a helicopter were dispatched to the scene.

"Mayday, mayday," the man said in his distress call. "I fell off the kayak."

The search area is about 275 square miles, the Coast Guard said.
