3-Time Maryland Lottery Winner Shares Her Strategy For Buying Tickets

A 30-year-old Maryland woman recently won $100,000 on a scratch-off ticket, and it's the third time she's done it in five years.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw how much I’d won,” the winner of the $100,000 prize told Maryland Lottery officials. “I immediately called my husband and said, ‘We did it again.’” They've won three prizes of at least that amount in the last five years.

MARYLAND — A 30-year-old Maryland woman was recently the winner of a $100,000 scratch-off prize, and Lottery officials say that its her third time in five years winning a prize of that caliber. Still, the shock of winning hasn't worn off.

“Are you kidding?" the woman said when Lottery officials if it was still exciting the third time around. "This is as crazy as it was the other times. It’s unbelievable!”

The unidentified winner is a stay-at-home mom in Wicomico County, according to a news release from the Maryland Lottery. She said her lotto success can be attributed to doing her research.

“My husband and I do the work on your website,” she told Lottery officials “We figure out which scratch-off games have been on sale for a long time but still have a lot of big-money prizes.”

She bought her most recent winner — a $100,000 Lucky — at the Goose Creek #03 convenience store and gas station in Mardela Springs. That ticket came out in September but still has 40 top prizes available, the Lottery said.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw how much I’d won,” said the woman. “I immediately called my husband and said, ‘We did it again.’”

She decided to go to that Goose Creek location because other buyers there had luck recently.

“I knew that they sold a big ticket a few weeks ago,” she said. “I hoped that there was still some luck hanging around there.”

The winner told the lottery that she plans to save the money from this lotto ticket.

"We know how lucky we are," she said. "This money, as was the case with our other big wins, will be there for our children. We’re taking good care of it.”
