“We are delighted to announce the national tour launch of Water for Elephants at the Hippodrome. Having witnessed this extraordinary production firsthand, I am confident that it will captivate audiences in Baltimore and beyond. We are thrilled that Maryland has been chosen as the exclusive premiere location for this tour.”

Announced in 2022, Maryland’s Theatrical Production Tax Credit program provides an incentive for theatrical production companies to launch national tours and set pre-Broadway runs in Maryland. The credits encourage producers to bring their productions to the state for weeks of technical work and rehearsals prior to launching their tours and/or bringing new shows to Broadway. The tax credits were utilized for the pre-Broadway National Tour Launch of THE WIZ (September 2023) and shows during the Hippodrome’s current Broadway Series that will benefit include & JULIET (September 2024) and LIFE OF PI (December 2024).

“We extend our sincere gratitude to the Maryland Department of Commerce for their support through the Theatrical Tax Credit,” said Legler. “This incentive is instrumental in attracting major productions to our state and providing crucial employment opportunities for our union workers during typically slower seasons. We look forward to welcoming the cast, crew and creative teams to Charm City as they build and launch this beautiful production in the Fall of 2025.”
