Restaurant Starts Rebuilding 1 Year After Fire Closed Anne Arundel County Eatery

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Sailor Oyster Bar announced Friday that it started to rebuild its Annapolis restaurant.

The news comes 13 months after the eatery caught fire, forcing it to close. The community previously raised thousands of dollars to help the business stay afloat until it reopens.

"We are stoked and cannot wait to be back serving and enjoying all our friends and family," Sailor Oyster Bar said on Instagram. "Thanks for all the love and keeping this dream alive!"

The eatery plans to reopen in its original location at 196 West Street. The business does not yet have a projected reopening date.

Sailor Oyster Bar caught fire on June 8, 2022.

Improperly discarded smoking materials caused the accidental blaze, the Annapolis Fire Department said.

The Annapolis community chipped in to help Sailor.

Two GoFundMe campaigns raised nearly $76,000 to help the bar rebuild. This one collected roughly $60,000. This one welcomed almost $16,000.

About 700 people donated to the fundraisers.

Both GoFundMe pages are still open for donations.
