2 MD Pizzerias Among Nation's Best, Italian Website Says

MARYLAND — Two Maryland pizzerias are among the 50 best in the United States, according to an Italian pizza-ranking website.

Inferno Pizzeria Napoletana in Montgomery County ranked 22nd on the list that features some of the best slices in the nation, according to 50toppizza.it. Located in Darnestown, Inferno opened in 2015 and offers authentic Neapolitan pies created by chef/owner Tony Conte.

"High hydration, very soft crust that encloses a soft disc topped with tomato, vegetables, cheeses, and cured meats that take you on a journey through flavors," the ranking says of Inferno. "The cooking, perfectly executed in the wood-fired oven, enhances the work of the pizza maker Conte, who has various kitchen experiences in renowned brigades reworked here for his restaurant and pizza project."

Angeli's Pizzeria in Baltimore also made the list at No. 50. With three locations throughout the city, Angeli's describes itself as a "small restaurant in a vibrant neighborhood with a goal to provide its community with delicious food."

Those behind the top 50 pizza ranking seemed to agree.

"The large bar counter dominates the room and the warm decor makes the place cozy and immediately puts you at ease. The menu includes appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and pasta, in addition to pizza of course," the ranking states. "The service is attentive and informal, with prices in line with the city average."
