Baltimore, DC Among Top U.S. Cities For Working Parents: Ranking

BALTIMORE, MD — If you're trying to balance bedtimes with the board room, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. are among the best U.S. cities for working parents, according to a new ranking.

The ranking by online coworking space directory CoworkingCafe analyzed several metrics that contribute to making a city a good place for working families. Factors included the number of each remote jobs available, public schools and pediatricians.

Metrics were then categorized into three main groups — work, education and health care/environment — that contributed to a city's overall score.

Washington, D.C. was ranked No. 1 among the top 20 cities with the ideal mix of career opportunities, great childcare, and high quality of life, according to the analysis.

Specifically, the city ranked 2nd in the overall work category due to the high number of office jobs, making it easier for parents to find remote employment. The nation's capital also had the fourth-highest percentage of remote workers. D.C. also excelled in education with more than four public schools per square mile, second only to Miami.

Meanwhile, Baltimore was ranked 19th out of 20 cities. According to the ranking, Baltimore also boasts a high number of office jobs (65.7 percent) and around 13.4 percent of the workforce is remote.

Nearby Arlington and Richmond, Virginia, were also included in the ranking at No. 3 and No. 16, respectively.
