New Year's Baby Born Seconds After Midnight In Rockville

Little Meilani Morales​ made her debut at Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville seconds after midnight on Jan. 1.

ROCKVILLE, MD — While millions of revelers celebrated the start of 2019, one Maryland couple welcomed their New Year's Day baby.

Meilani Morales — who was born 34 seconds after midnight on Jan. 1 — is believed to be the D.C. area's first baby of 2019. Little Morales made her debut at Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville.

"She's a blessing — my new year's gift," mother Julie Palencia told NBC4 Washington.

The baby girl was expected to arrive on Jan. 13. But it seems like she didn't want to miss out on all the fun Tuesday. She'll join her big sister, who recently turned one, says NBC4 Washington.

"It's pretty amazing. It's incredible. We're just very happy and blessed — and just really happy that she's healthy, father Silvio Morales told the outlet.

Morales weighed a cool five pounds, 15 ounces and stands 19 inches tall.
