BETHESDA, MD — Many workers and students in the Bethesda area will get a long weekend for Presidents Day on Monday, Feb. 20.

George Washington's birthday is Feb. 22, but the federally observed Presidents Day falls on the third Monday in February.

Government offices, schools and other services will be closed on Feb. 20, while other services like transit may have schedule changes. Below are the openings and closings to know in Bethesda and Montgomery County:

Montgomery County office buildings: Closed Monday, Feb. 20.

State offices and courts: Closed Monday, Feb. 20.

Montgomery County Schools: Closed Monday, Feb. 16.

Post offices: Closed Monday, Feb. 20.

State Motor Vehicle Administration offices and Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program stations: Closed Monday, Feb. 20.

Libraries: Closed Sunday, Jan. 15 and Monday, Feb. 20.

Alcohol Beverage Services: All stores will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20.

County-operated COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Clinics: No county-provided clinics currently operate on Mondays.

Department of Permitting Services: All offices, including customer service lobby, are closed Monday, Feb. 20.

Ride On: Will operate on a holiday schedule on Monday, Feb. 20. All schedules can be found at Routes and Schedules.

Ride On extRa and Ride On Flex: Will operate on a holiday schedule.

Flash: Orange Line will operate on a holiday schedule. The Blue Line will not operate on Monday, Feb. 20.

MARC Train: Operates on "R" schedule on all three lines. This is a reduced level of service. Only trains with an "R" under the train number in the Camden and Penn Line timetables and Brunswick Line trains will operate. In addition, some trains will make additional stops when operating on the "R" schedule. Find schedules at Maryland Transit Administration.

TRiPS Silver Spring commuter store: Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20.

TRiPS Mobile Commuter Store: Closed Monday, Feb. 20.

Metrorail: On Monday, Feb. 20, Metrorail will operate on Saturday Holiday schedule, with trains running from 5 a.m. to midnight. See https://www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables/.

Metrobus: On Monday, Feb. 20, Metrobus will operate on Saturday Supplemental schedule. See https://www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables/.

Public Parking Garages, Lots, Curbside Meters: Free on Monday, Feb. 20.

County-provided trash and recycling: County-provided trash and recycling collections are postponed on Monday, Feb. 20. Collections will slide one day later than usual throughout the week, with last pickup on Saturday, Feb. 25.

Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center: Closed Monday, Feb. 20.

Aquatic Centers: Will operate at normal hours on Monday, Feb. 20.

Community Recreation Centers: Closed Monday, Feb. 20.

Senior Centers: Closed Monday, Feb. 20.

  • Open Parkways Schedule. The Open Parkways will be extended during the Presidents Day holiday weekend. During this time, parkways are open to pedestrians and bicyclists and closed to motor vehicles. This impacts Beach Drive between Connecticut and Knowles Avenue (2.9 miles), from 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, until 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb, 21; Sligo Creek Parkway between Old Carroll Avenue and Piney Branch Road and between Forest Glen Road and University Boulevard West from 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, until 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Little Falls Parkway between Arlington Road and Dorset Avenue (0.4 miles) will be open 24/7 for recreation and exercise on one side of the median.
  • Montgomery Parks Headquarters and Permits  Offices: Closed Monday, Feb. 20.
  • Montgomery Parks Public Information and Customer Service Office: Closed Monday, Feb. 20.
  • Brookside Gardens Visitor Center and Conservatory: Closed Monday, Feb. 20, but gardens will be open.
