HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A man is facing charges after state police said he threatened a woman and kids with a gun following a road rage-fueled crash on Interstate 95 in Howard County. State police are also investigating whether the man is connected to a fatal road rage shooting that happened on the same stretch of road in 2022.

Jeffery Johnson, 32, of Dundalk, was charged with multiple counts each of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and for using a firearm in a felony or violent crime, Maryland State Police said.

Johnson was arrested and transported to the Baltimore County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred shortly before 3:30 p.m. on May 14. According to police, a woman and her three children were driving north on I-95 when a Nissan Altima driven by Johnson sped by and attempted to cut in front of her, subsequently causing a crash.

The woman told state police that Johnson stopped his car in traffic and approached her vehicle with a gun before fleeing.

As the woman drove away, she told police Johnson slowed the Nissan so he was next to her. He then pointed the gun at her again before driving away, police said.

No one was injured, police said.

As troopers were investigating the incident, they began to notice similarities to an unsolved case from January 2022 when an Anne Arundel County man identified as Charles “Charlie” Marks was fatally shot in an apparent road rage incident on the same stretch of interstate.

The investigation into Marks' death continues. No charges have been filed in the case.

Anyone with information related to the Marks investigation should call or text 410-645-0855. Metro Crime Stoppers is also offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
