The Howard County Police Department has released video footage of near misses and harrowing close calls by motorists running red lights.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The Howard County Police Department has released a video showing just how dangerous and deadly running a red light can be. The video compilation shows a pedestrian and a bicyclist narrowly being hit by vehicles running red lights. It also reveals harrowing near-misses between vehicles with the right-of-way and those running red lights.

According to the police department, running a red light continues to be a leading cause of urban crashes. The video features collisions from the second half of 2019 in the county. One incident involves a police car at an intersection as a driver runs a red light. Howard County has 26 active camera sites monitoring 18 intersections in the county.
