HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Drivers should expect temporary lane shifts during a construction project that begins Monday to build a sidewalk along eastbound Whiskey Bottom Road from Homestretch Court to US 1 in Laurel. This project is part of the county’s pedestrian plan to increase access to amenities along the US 1 corridor.

Currently, there is no sidewalk in the project area and eastbound Whiskey Bottom Road has no shoulder. By installing a sidewalk, this project will close the gap with an Americans with Disabilities Act compliant walking route to the next existing sidewalk on US 1. The project also includes installing a short retaining wall and drainage improvements. Weather permitting, the project should be completed by early August 2023.

The existing crosswalk along the south leg of US 1 at the Whiskey Bottom Road/US 1 intersection will remain available throughout the project.
