Police Arrest Teen With Loaded Gun At Gaithersburg High School

Police arrested an 18-year-old on Tuesday for possession of a loaded privately manufactured gun at Gaithersburg High School.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Police arrested an 18-year-old on Tuesday for possession of a loaded privately manufactured gun at Gaithersburg High School.

At about 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Gaithersburg Police Community Engagement Officers were called to the high school for an investigation.

Montgomery County Public Schools security team members conducted a search of the suspect, Josue Rivas of Gaithersburg, and found a loaded handgun. Based on the information provided and the recovery of the handgun, officers arrested Rivas, police said.

Police did not say whether Rivas is a student at Gaithersburg High School.

A privately manufactured gun is a firearm, including a frame or receiver, completed, assembled, or otherwise produced by a person other than a licensed manufacturer, and without a serial number placed by a licensed manufacturer at the time the firearm is produced.

Rivas was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. He has been charged with underage possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded handgun, and possession of a dangerous weapon on school property, police said.
