APG to Conduct Controlled Burns

Fires may be intentionally set at Aberdeen Proving Ground this March, officials say.

Aberdeen Proving Ground will be holding controlled burns during the month of March, officials said in a statement Wednesday.

Due to the potential for unexploded ordnances, authorities said that controlled burns were the safest way to maintain downrange spaces in the Aberdeen area.

The purpose of the fires is to maintain the landscape for training purposes and to address possible risks.

All controlled burns will be within guidelines set by Harford County and with assistance from the APG Fire Department.

Those in charge of the burns will ensure there is minimal impact on the greater community.
