Defenders Day Is Canceled For 2022: City Of Havre de Grace

Organizers cited inclement weather in deciding to cancel the event.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — A special event in Havre de Grace has been canceled for 2022.

Defender's Day recognizes the history of the city, which was defended during a raid by British soldiers on May 3, 1813.

The celebration slated for Saturday was to include food trucks and re-enactors as well as fireworks.

However, the forecast calls for rain Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

"Due to the threat of inclement weather, Defender’s Day, scheduled for Saturday, May 7, 2022, has been canceled," the city of Havre de Grace said in a statement issued Thursday. "This event will not be rescheduled."

Here is the forecast for Havre de Grace from the National Weather Service:

Thursday: A slight chance of showers after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Friday: Showers, mainly after 8 a.m. Patchy fog after 10 a.m. High near 59. Light southeast wind becoming east 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between 0.5 and 0.75 inch possible.

Friday night: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Patchy fog before 5 a.m. Low around 50. East wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Saturday: Rain, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Patchy fog between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. High near 55. Northeast wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between 0.5 and 0.75 inch possible.

Saturday night: Rain. Low around 43. Northeast wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Sunday: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. High near 55. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Sunday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42.

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 61 degrees and low around 44.
