Designer Of Bulle Rock Golf Course Dies

The man known as the architect of some of the most challenging golf courses, including one in Havre de Grace, has passed away.

Pete Dye, the famed golf course architect who designed Bulle Rock, has died at 94. He was described as "one of the most important course architects of this or any generation" by PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan.

Dye, who faced a years-long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, died in the Dominican Republic Thursday morning, the Associated Press reported.

"Pete Dye left an imprint on the world of golf that will be experienced for generations," according to a statement from the PGA, "painting wonderful pictures with the land that continue to inspire, entertain & challenge us."

Among his masterpieces were courses such as The Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Florida and Bulle Rock in Havre de Grace.

Bulle Rock was ranked the best course to play in Maryland by Golfweek and Zagat and one of Golf Magazine's top 100 publicly playable courses in the country.

For his contributions, Dye was admitted to the Golf Hall of Fame in 2008.
