Duck Drop 2021 Planned At Concord Point Park

Havre de Grace will usher in the new year with fireworks and a replica duck dropped by the Susquehanna Hose Company.

The Havre de Grace Duck Drop in 2020 occurred despite many other areas canceling events due to the coronavirus. This year it will go on, with fireworks capping off the evening, as has been tradition for 20-plus years.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — A replica duck will drop and fireworks will illuminate the sky as Havre de Grace rings in the New Year later this month near the Concord Point Lighthouse.

Sponsored by the Susquehanna Hose Company and the city of Havre de Grace, the annual New Year's Eve tradition draws crowds to witness a replica duck dropping from the fire company's ladder truck.

This year, the event is expected to attract about 1,000 people, according to the event application filed with the city.

Havre de Grace Director of Administration Steve Gamatoria presented the application to the City Council this week.

"Fireworks will begin at the stroke of midnight," Gamatoria said at the Dec. 6 meeting of the council, which accepted the request. The event will not be live-streamed by the city, Gamatoria said, responding to a question from the council.
