Crowds Flock To Havre de Grace For First Friday

Live music and beer gardens were some of the attractions. The outdoor concert at Tydings Park was canceled.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — The chance of rain did not keep people away from First Friday in Havre de Grace. Entertainers, extended shopping hours and more drew crowds to the Main Street district.

The First Friday celebration turned downtown Havre de Grace into a street festival from 5 to 9:30 p.m.

Havre de Grace officials said they reviewed the forecast and planned to make a call about the event at 2 p.m.; afterward, they confirmed to Patch that First Friday was still going to happen. The concert in Tydings Park, however, was canceled.

Some merchants stayed open late and many offered sales for the occasion.

A family friendly area was set up on Congress Avenue at Washington Street.

There was a car show downtown featuring classic cars on Franklin Street.

Streets were closed around the merchant district for the occasion, and the area will transform into a pedestrian thoroughfare. Impacted streets will be Washington, St. John and Franklin.

Live Music

Rockers Howi and Donald Spangler of Ballyhoo played an acoustic set in the courtyard by Edel's Bridal Boutique at 7:30 p.m. at 315 Saint John Street. The store is featuring a 50 percent off sale for select bridesmaid and mother-of-the-bride dresses plus up to $500 off some wedding gowns.

CANCELED: Every Friday in June and July Tydings Park will be offering "Summer Concerts in the Park." Bluegrass band Acoustic Turnpike was to play on Friday, June 1, but the event was canceled.
