Hatem Bridge Reopens, Officials Say

The Hatem Bridge was closed for hours Monday due to a utility problem, according to authorities.

All lanes were shut down along the bridge that connects Harford and Cecil counties via US 40, the Maryland Transportation Authority reported after 11:30 a.m.

By 2:15 p.m., the bridge had reopened. However, the right lane on Route 40 east remained blocked.

A gas leak was reported in the area of US 40/Pulaski Highway at Aiken Avenue in Perryville, according to the Perryville Police Department. Perryville Middle School students were let out early Monday because of the gas odor.

MD 222 was closed between Route 40 and Broad Street, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration. It had reopened by 1:15 p.m.

Traffic from the Hatem Bridge was temporarily detoured onto the Tydings Bridge, which connects Harford and Cecil counties via Interstate 95.
