HAVRE DE GRACE, MD —Immanuel Quickley, the Have de Grace-native and standout NBA rookie, celebrated earlier this week when his New York Knicks clinched the franchise's first playoff berth since 2013. Quickley, who graduated from the John Carroll School, tweeted an emoji of hands praying with the word "CLINCHED!"

A few days earlier, Quickley's mother Nitrease, who is the assistant principal at Bel Air High School, and grandmother Ellen were the ones celebrating, when the 21-year-old Immanuel Quickley gifted them Range Rovers for Mother's Day. Quickley's aunt Demetria Caldwell shared the video of the women receiving their gifts, adorned with big red bows, with KentuckySportsRadio.com.

It's been quite a last six months for Quickley, who was selected in the first round (25th overall) in last November's NBA Draft. Expectations were modest for the 6-foot-3 guard, who played two seasons at Kentucky.

But it didn't take long for Quickley to established himself as a key contributor for the much-improved Knicks, who are 39-31 and holding onto the No. 6 spot in the Eastern Conference heading into the final two games of the regular season this weekend.

Dylan Burd of the TheKnicksWall.com, said Quickley 'should be a shoo-in on the All-Rookie First Team.' He ranked Quickley as the Knicks' second-best rookie since 2010, behind Kristaps Porzingis, who as the No. 4 pick in 2015, and one spot ahead of R.J. Barrett, the No. 3 pick in 2019.

"Quickley gives New York a special offensive talent," Burd wrote about the guard, who is averaging 11.7 points in 19.6 minutes off the bench. "Quickley offers a secondary ballhandler, who can space the floor with an array of off-the-dribble and spot-up shooting."

Burd said Quickley still had to improve on his ability to drive to the basket, and work on his point guard skills.

"That being said, there's no reason to doubt Quickley's ability to be a solid scorer and contributor moving forward, based on how important he is to this year's Knicks team," Burd said.

Nor should anybody doubt Quickley's kindness and generosity to his mom and grandmother.
