HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — A storm could drench Havre de Grace this week, prompting a warning from city officials and from Harford County.

A flash flood watch is in effect from 11 a.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Thursday.

About 2 to 4 inches of rain could fall as the remnants of Ida interact with a stalled front, with up to 6 inches of rain possible in some areas, according to the National Weather Service.

"The NWS is very concerned for the threat of tornadoes and the potential for flash flooding to impact our county," Harford County Emergency Manager Rick Ayers said in a statement Tuesday.

In case of a tornado, people should go inside to the basement or lowest floor of a sturdy building and move to an interior room away from windows.

"Do not drive through high water," Ayers said. "In case of power outages, charge your devices and only use a generator outdoors and away from windows."

City officials urged Havre de Grace residents to prepare in advance.

"Tropical Storm Ida may be passing through our area this Wednesday and Thursday, bringing heavy rains and strong winds," the city of Havre de Grace advised in a statement. "Please be mindful."

Here are other instructions from the city:

  • Clear storm drains of leaves, branches and other debris.
  • Secure lawn furniture and outdoor toys.
  • Check low spots around the foundation of your home that may create ponding.
