HdG Veteran Gets Free Roof

A Havre de Grace man will receive a free roof through national and local partners who are saying "thank you" to veterans.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — An Army veteran will receive a new roof this week in Havre de Grace. American Design and Build will install a complimentary roof at the home of Roland Schnauer.

The free roof is part of a national effort to thank veterans and their families for their service.

"Mr. Schauer has several medical issues that have taken precedence over his roof," Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna Home Rehabilitation Supervisor Terry Hottle said in a statement. "This is why we do this – to give back to people who are more than deserving, but otherwise wouldn’t have the means."

Schauer, who volunteered for the U.S. Army after graduating from high school in 1972, will receive a new roof on Friday, Aug. 31.

American Design and Build, which is located on US 40/Pulaski Highway in Havre de Grace, will install the new roof.

"It’s all about trust, and I think that’s where we really shine," American Design & Build President Joseph A. Tunney said in a statement. “We’re here for our customers today and we’re going to be there when they need us for years to come. That’s the same dedication we put behind the opportunity to help Mr. Schauer and our promise to give him a roof that’s installed right and will last him years to come.”
