Christ is Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Our Holy Week devotions at St John’s this year include two special services. On Good Friday

A Pilgrimage to Calvary is a moving, contemplative hour of narratives and music, as we become the onlookers present at the foot of the cross, and hearing their reflections.

The Great Vigil on Holy Saturday begins after sundown as we gather inside the unlit church. In the darkness a new fire is kindled and blessed, from which the Paschal Candle is lit, symbolizing the Light of Christ, used throughout the season of Easter, and the coming year at baptisms and funerals. The candles held by those present are lit from the Paschal candle, the Exultet is chanted, and rscripture read. Alleluia is sung for the first time since the beginning of Lent.

We hope you will find the Holy Week services at St John’s a blessed and enriching preparation for the joyful celebration of Eastertide, and look forward to seeing you all!
