HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — More than two years after changing hands, a restaurant in downtown Havre de Grace has closed. Lagom on North Washington Street is no longer operating.

"It would appear that Lagom...closed as of Thursday, May 2," Harford County Liquor Control Board Administrator Pilar Garcia said at the board's meeting on Wednesday, May 8.

Liquor licensees are supposed to inform the Harford County Liquor Control Board of any changes in status.

Previously, the licensees notified the board that there was an issue involving taxes, and "they were working on it," Garcia said. "There was a tax hold which was precluding the renewal of the license."

Court records show that the state has a $35,198 lien on Lagom, recorded March 18.

To allow the business time to resolve the issue, the liquor board gave Lagom until May 10 to renew its liquor license.

After not hearing anything further from Lagom's owners beyond previous indications that they were working to fix the tax situation, Garcia said the liquor board learned of the restaurant's closure from the Harford County resident on the liquor license.

The licensee "was very surprised" and "had no notice" that the restaurant was closing, Garcia said.
