North Harford High School Envirothon Team Takes 1st At State Competition

North Harford High School's Envirothon Team captured first place in the state competition. They advance to the international competition.

For the second year in a row, North Harford High School's Envirothon Team landed in first place at the Maryland Envirothon Competition.

Next up - representing Maryland at the International Envirothon in Geneva, New York, competing against teams from across the U.S., Canada, China and Singapore. Team members include Blake Carberry, Madalyn Caiazzo, Anna O’Leary, Frank DeLuca and Jonathan VanBuskirk. They are led by Coach Laura O’Leary. Last year’s team, including Carberry, Caiazzo, Julia Eakes who has graduated and replaced by VanBuskirk, O’Leary and DeLuca placed 10th at the international competition.

“We are incredibly proud of our students' dedication and hard work,” O’Leary said. “Their passion for environmental science and their commitment to excellence have brought them this far and we are excited to see them compete internationally.”

Envirothon is an environmental education competition that draws high school students from around the world, challenging their knowledge and understanding of ecological principles, natural resource management and sustainable practices.

“I am amazed by the talent, knowledge and determination of these students,” added HCPS Superintendent Sean Bulson. “Their achievement reflects the high standards of education and the commitment to environmental education that we strive for in Harford County Public Schools. We congratulate them on their first-place win at the state level and wish them the best of luck as they represent HCPS on the international stage.”
