Roosters Rescued In Darlington: Sheriff

The Harford County Sheriff's Office participated in a rooster rescue operation.

DARLINGTON, MD — Rounding up roosters was part of a day's work for some members of the Harford County Sheriff's Office. Officials said that someone dumped seven roosters on the side of the road, prompting a call to authorities.

There was one problem; there were seven roosters, and only one animal control officer was working at the time, officials said.

The call for roosters to be wrangled came in around 8:56 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14, according to the sheriff's office. The birds had been abandoned in the 2200 block of Price Road in Darlington, authorities said.

"None of the property owners in the area have this type of bird," Cristie Hopkins, spokeswoman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office, told Patch, "so they would have had to been left in the area."

Two dispatchers and a deputy teamed up to assist with the case, and all seven roosters were successfully rounded up with the expertise of Animal Control Officer Krejci, the sheriff's office reported on Monday.

The call was not totally out of the ordinary in Harford County.

"We routinely answer calls for service to assist when livestock has wandered into the roadway," Hopkins said. "Sometimes it's cows or horses — other times it's goats and chickens!"

Once they had been gathered, the roosters were taken to the Humane Society of Harford County, according to WJZ.
