HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — The Tidewater Grille will reopen soon after a closure due to COVID-19 this winter. Since January, the restaurant on Franklin Street has been closed.

The business had been closed "due to the COVID numbers," according to Judi Powell, special projects coordinator for the Harford County Liquor Control Board.

In January, as the omicron variant caused a spike in COVID-19 infections, the restaurant asked the liquor board to place its license temporarily in escrow.

Owner Ralph Shipot asked the Harford County Liquor Control Board to release his license, effective March 7.

Shipot wanted to be able to place orders for liquor in anticipation of reopening, Powell told the board at its Feb. 23 meeting. The board authorized the move.

It was not the first time the Tidewater closed for an extended period during the coronavirus pandemic. Shipot also shuttered the restaurant from Dec. 7, 2020, to March 10, 2021.

Tidewater closed again in August 2021 after several employees tested positive for COVID-19.
