Tidewater Grille Closes Temporarily Due To COVID-19

A restaurant in Havre de Grace is closed temporarily out of "an abundance of caution."

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — The Tidewater Grille is closed temporarily after several employees tested positive for COVID-19, according to a statement from the restaurant.

On Saturday, the Tidewater Grille posted on its Facebook page that it was closing until further notice.

"We understand some of our recent guests have some concerns," the Tidewater Grille wrote on Facebook Monday, Aug. 16. "The Harford County Health Department has been notified. We believe we identified the issue early, and are monitoring the health of our employees to see whether any other individuals get sick or test positive."

The restaurant encouraged people who were concerned they may have been exposed to the virus to consider getting tested.

Tidewater dated the letter on its door Friday, Aug. 13.

"We are temporarily closing the restaurant effective today," the letter said. "Several employees have tested positive for Covid, and we are consequently closing out of an abundance of caution. We are looking at this closure as a short-term pause in business while we evaluate and monitor current conditions."

Owner Ralph Shapot, who signed the letter, wrote: "We look forward to reopening and serving you again as soon as we believe it is safe. Until then, connect with us virtually online via our website and social media channels. This is where you'll fine updates and news on our reopening."

Havre de Grace has had 1,192 confirmed cases of the coronavirus since the pandemic began, according to the Maryland Department of Health's Aug. 16 data.

The 21078 ZIP code has a seven-day average of one case of COVID-19, according to the Harford County Health Department's data as of Aug. 15. Officials said the ZIP code has also had 38.1 cases per 100,000 in the last seven days.
