Tornado Touched Down In Cecil County: National Weather Service

A tornado with 90 mph winds uprooted trees and damaged a deck in Port Deposit, officials said.

PORT DEPOSIT, MD — A tornado touched down in northeastern Maryland Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Officials said the EF-1 tornado blew through Cecil County with 90 mph winds.

From 2:37 to 2:45 p.m. Monday, the storm traveled about 5.5 miles near Port Deposit, according to authorities.

In its path, the twister uprooted hardwood trees, lifted a roof deck, collapsed a chimney and snapped softwood tree trunks, officials reported.

Nobody was injured in the tornado, according to the National Weather Service, which said it was 75 yards wide.

Another tornado hit Cecil County earlier this year. That storm brought 100 mph winds and caused no damage as it was on the ground for less than a mile when it landed in Elkton on Feb. 7.

On Aug. 4, multiple tornadoes swept through the Eastern Shore during Tropical Storm Isaias.

More recently, a twister with 90 mph winds took down a fence, snapped utility poles and leveled trees in Edgewater on Sept. 2.

When the tornado arrived in Port Deposit Monday, Cecil County was under a tornado warning.
