UM Urgent Care Partners With HCEF to Help School Nurses

University of Maryland Urgent Care (UM Urgent Care), a member of the University of Maryland Medical System, has partnered with the Harford County Education Foundation (HCEF) to purchase much needed supplies for school nurses across Harford County Public Schools. UMUrgent Care has Harford County locations in Aberdeen, Fallston and Forest Hill.

UM Urgent Care and HCEF have partnered on a variety of projects since 2019 to support students, staff and teachers in Harford County. Recently, a new collaboration was developed with UM Urgent Care donating $1,500 to HCEF enabling the purchase of needed medical equipment for school nurses, including a nebulizer, stereoscopes, two otoscopes and a hand-washing education kit.

“We know there are limitations when it comes to school district budgets, and school nurses typically make do with less and often must purchase supplies out of their own pocket just to make it through the year,” said Nicholas Bower, DO, Regional Medical Director of UM Urgent Care. “We asked ourselves, if they are buying Band-Aids out of pocket, then what are they doing when it comes to more expensive items?”

Mary Nasuta, Supervisor of Health Services for Harford County Public Schools, polled nurses about what type of supply needs could be fulfilled by this partnership. “To some this may not be much, but the nurses and the students they care for will definitely benefit from these items,” she said. “We are extremely grateful to UM Urgent Care for their partnership and support.”
