Volunteers Needed To Serve On Harford County Education Board's Audit Committee

Volunteers are needed to help out with the Harford County Board of Education's audit committee, which helps monitor HCPS finances.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Volunteers are needed to serve on the Board of Education of Harford County’s audit committee. The five-member committee helps the board fulfill its fiduciary oversight responsibilities.

The committee serves as an independent and objective party to monitor the HCPS financial reporting process and internal controls. The core function of the audit committee will be to validate the internal auditor’s strategy, plan and performance and confirm that action is taken where necessary.

The audit committee consists of five members, two from the Board of Education and three at-large Harford County citizens. Citizen members serve a three-year term and are appointed at staggered intervals. Members are appointed by the Board of Education and can serve up to two full terms. The committee meets at least quarterly to review the activities of the Office of Internal Audit.

Any Harford County resident interested in applying should send a letter of interest and a biographical sketch to Laura Tucholski, Chief Auditor, Harford County Public Schools, 102 S. Hickory Avenue, Bel Air, Maryland 21014, by May 15. Letters of interest should include name, address, phone number and background information containing: reasons for interest in being appointed, a professional resume and disclosure of any relationships to Harford County Public Schools, such as family members employed by Harford County Public Schools; children and the school(s) they attend; membership in community, social and civic groups; occupation; business contracts with Harford County Public Schools; and availability to attend evening meetings.
