Advocate for a Child with Mental Health Needs

Maryland Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) works to ensure all abused and neglected children their right to safe, permanent homes. CASA volunteers are court-appointed, trained adults who advocate for children’s and youths’ best interests.

Children and youth who have experienced trauma often require mental health services to help them heal. CASA volunteers ensure that children receive needed services such as:

• Mental health screening and treatment
• Consultations with mental health care providers
• Appropriate school placement (special education, support services, etc.)
• Appropriate foster care placement (foster homes, residential treatment, etc.)

Maryland CASA is looking for volunteers, like you, to help serve children and youth with mental health needs. Together, we can help build a brighter future for all of Maryland’s abused and neglected children!

What are the requirements?

• CASA Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age;
• Pass a background screening;
• Complete 30 hours of training;
• Be able to commit to a child for at least one year.
