Hyattsville Driver Arrested For DUI In Fatal Crash: Police

One person died and several were injured in a multi-car crash involving a drunk driver in Silver Spring, officials said.

SILVER SPRING, MD — One person died and several were injured in a multi-car crash involving a drunk driver from Hyattsville in Silver Spring Sunday morning, officials said.

The collision happened just after 3 a.m. at Columbia Pike (Route 29) and Fairland Road, police said.

Police say a 2006 Honda Pilot and a 2014 Honda Pilot were involved in a minor crash. The cars were stopped in a southbound lane of Columbia Pike at Fairland Drive, police said. The driver and a front seat passenger of the 2006 Pilot exited their vehicle and stood near their car.

A man driving a 2006 BMW was traveling southbound when he struck the black Honda Pilot, police said. The driver and the passenger of the black pilot who had been standing outside of their car were also struck by the BMW.

The operator of the black Honda Pilot is identified as My Huong T. Nguyen, 45, of Greenbelt. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene, police said.

The operator of the BMW is identified as Ivan William Kadian, 29, of Hyattsville. Kadian was not injured in the collision. Responding officers arrested Kadian at the scene for suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI), police said.

The adult male passenger who was also struck while standing outside of the black Pilot was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An adult female rear-seat passenger in the black Pilot was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An adult male front-seat passenger in the BMW was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The adult female driver of the silver Honda Pilot and an adult female passenger were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
