No Late-Night Rail Service for Redskins Game

The NFL team has canceled plans to extend train service by an hour after Thursday's preseason game.

Trains service for fans leaving FedEx Field on Thursday night will not be extended an hour after the Washington Redskins final preseason game, the team announced.

The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Team officials said that after consulting with Metro about ridership, they decided there was no need for a late train, a change from earlier plans to extend the train schedule. The cost is paid for by the team.

The Redskins statement to The Washington Post says the last trains will leave after 11 p.m., which are between 45 minutes and one hour after the end of the game. That should give fans time to reach the station. Unlike a regular season game, overtime is not played in preseason games, says the club, so that isn’t a factor.

Metrorail will close at midnight, its normally scheduled time. The stadium in Prince George’s County is located close to the Largo Town Center and Morgan Boulevard stations.
