PG County Police Identify Victim Of Fatal Shooting In Hyattsville

Prince George's County Police detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday night in in the Hyattsville area.

HYATTSVILLE, MD -- Prince George's County Police identified the victim in a fatal shooting that took place Wednesday night in the Hyattsville area, according to a police release. Filomena Vasquez, 56, was shot inside her home in the 7400 block of Varnum Street.

Police responded to Vasquez's address on Jan. 1, about 11:30 p.m., to the report of a shooting. Officers found Vasquez suffering multiple gunshot wounds and she was pronounced dead on the scene.

Following a preliminary investigation, police believe the gunfire came from outside of the victim's house and was directed into the home. No motive is presently known.

Detectives from PGCPD's Homicide Unit are investigating the incident and working to develop suspect(s).
