Seven Maryland Billionaires Make Forbes 400 Richest List

Check out the list of Maryland billionaires who made the 2015 list of the 400 wealthiest people in the United States.

The same seven businessmen make up the Maryland contingent of billionaires on the 2015 Forbes 400 list, although their standing on the list has changed since last year.

Developer Ted Lerner retains the highest placing, while Under Armour found Kevin Plank climbed to second place. And the owners of the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens both saw their net worth rise, even if the fortunes of their NFL teams didn’t fare so well.

There are no new aces at the top of the country’s billionaire heap: Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Berkshire Hathaway’s Warren Buffett and Oracle’s Larry Ellison are the leaders. Again.

But making the Forbes 400 was tougher this year.

“Admission to the list starts at a record $1.7 billion, up $150 million from a year ago,” Forbes wrote. “It’s a high bar that 145 U.S. billionaires failed to clear. Still, 25 newcomers debut thanks to hot stocks, big deals and rising property values. And even in a volatile year, these titans climbed higher to a collective $2.34 trillion.

Here is where Maryland’s billionaires land on the list.

Maryland billionaires:

  • Ted Lerner of Chevy Chase, developer and founder of Lerner Enterprises, is No. 86 on the list. Net worth: $5.5 billion.
  • Kevin Plank of Lutherville, founder and CEO of Under Armour, is No. 145. Net worth: $3.9 billion.
  • Mitchell Rales of Potomac, co-founder of Danaher investment firm, is No. 171. Net worth: $3.5 billion.
  • Stephen Bisciotti of Millersville, owner of the Baltimore Ravens, is No. 203. Net worth: $3.2 billion.
  • Bernard Saul II of Chevy Chase, chairman and CEO of Saul Centers Inc., is No. 211. Net worth: $3 billion.
  • David Rubenstein of Bethesda, co-chief executive officer and co-founder, Carlyle Group, is No. 256. Net worth: $2.6 billion.
  • Dan Snyder of Potomac, owner of the Washington Redskins, is No. 327. Net worth: $2.1 billion.
