Snow Possible In Hyattsville This Week: Report

After a few teases leading up to Thanksgiving, there's a decent chance of snow later this week.

The D.C. area briefly flirted with snow several times in recent weeks, but ultimately, it failed to materialize. However, we've got a decent chance of getting some later this week in the area.

As temperatures take a sudden dive due to a cold front beginning on Wednesday, the odds of snow rise considerably. Snow in our area isn't as common in December as it is in the first few months of the year, but because of this development, we could see a few flakes late this week or over the weekend, according to a report from the Capital Weather Gang.

"Any snow we see between Thursday and the weekend is likely to result from clippers, fast-moving disturbances from the northwest limited in moisture," CWG wrote. "We may experience back-to-back such clippers late Friday and late Saturday."

Flakes are one thing, accumulation is quite another. Surprisingly, there's even a chance of that too, albeit a small one.

Of course, these fast-moving clippers are hard to predict, so don't be surprised if there isn't any snow at all. But even if we miss our chance, the temperatures will remain so cold that there will be more opportunities. In fact, the average date of first measurable snow in our area is around Dec. 15.
