Treat Yourself on Free Cone Day from Ben and Jerry's

Tuesday, April 14, is Free Cone Day courtesy of the ice cream company's scoop shops, which includes its National Harbor location.

What better way to offset the pain of last-minute tax filing than with free ice cream?

The Ben & Jerry’s ice cream company is offering free cones today to anyone who stops by one of their locations. The entrepreneurs don’t say if they chose the day because it’s one day before the 2015 income tax filing deadline.

So why dole out thousands of free scoops? “It’s our way to celebrate and say thanks for another year of support, and we’ve kept it up every year since, spreading the peace, love & ice cream around the globe,” the company says on its website.

Free Cone Day runs from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 14.

Prince George’s County residents can stop by the store at National Harbor, 138 National Plaza in Oxon Hill, to claim their treat.

According to a running poll on the ice cream company’s website, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is the leader among the three varieties offered for free today. Sweet-tooth voters give it the edge with 47 percent planning to scoop up that cone, followed by 30 percent craving some Cherry Garcia, and 23 percent longing for a Chocolate Fudge Brownie cone.
