'Wintry Weather' In Hyattsville Next Week: Report

There's even a strong chance for snow in the forecast.

HYATTSVILLE, MD -- A strong cold front will usher in some very cold and wintry weather into our area over the next week, and that brings an outside chance of some snow.

The Capital Weather Gang reports that a cold front will move into the D.C. area on Wednesday, so you won't be able to enjoy those temperatures in the 50s and 60s where you didn't even have to wear a jacket. Highs will instead be in the 30s and 40s, and dip well below freezing at night.

It's possible the autumn weather will be gone for good this year, as the cold pattern could last into Christmas, which would be past the official start date for winter.

The question about snow is a lot more complicated. There's a chance of light snow or flurries on Wednesday night as the cold front moves in, but even if it did snow, you probably wouldn't see any accumulation. Past that, it's tough for forecasters to make predictions, but any precipitation that might pop up has a strong chance of being snow.

A big dome of high pressure over Alaska is the apparent cause of this cold front, causing a downstream dip in the jet stream across the eastern United States, CWG reports.
