Air pollution levels in parts of the Baltimore metro area may be unhealthy for sensitive groups.

The Maryland Department of the Environment has issued a code orange air quality alert for the Baltimore metro area, including Anne Arundel County.

Air pollution concentrations may be unhealthy for sensitive groups including children, older adults, asthmatics and those with heart and lung diseases, according to the Maryland Department of the Environment.

Areas where air quality may be unhealthy Monday include Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard and Anne Arundel counties.

Those who may be impacted by the air pollution can minimize the effects of poor air quality by avoiding strenuous activities or exercise outside, the department of the environment advises.
