Fatal bicycle-involved crashes increased in Maryland from 6 in 2014 to 11 in 2015, says the Maryland State Highway Administration. Bicycle safety education efforts remind both bicyclists and drivers to share the road and look out for each other.

Luckily, the weather looks like it will cooperate. The Annapolis area forecast calls for mostly clear skies Friday and a high of 70 degrees. And for once, no rain chances.

About the Regional Event

Bike to Work Day is an annual event, coordinated regionally by WABA and Commuter Connections, celebrating new and seasoned bicycle commuters.

In addition to the following events, a B2WD After Party will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Handlebar Café, located at 511 S. Caroline St. in Baltimore.

Locally, B2WD promotes a clean commute and is part of the region's Clean Commute Initiative, which begins in April. Late spring is the start of the ground-level ozone season when residents hear about Code Red and Orange Ozone Action Days. On those days, the air is dangerous to breathe – especially for the young and for the elderly. Bike commuting can improve the air quality. Read 5 reasons why employers should love bicycle commuters
