Celebration of Meade Village Redevelopment and Construction Completion

Severn, Md. (June 3, 2022) – State and local officials celebrated the completion of the Meade Village (soon to be Heritage at Severn) construction of new units and renovation of the community. The redevelopment was achieved through collaboration and partnerships with The Housing Commission of Anne Arundel County (HCAAC).

Invited speakers at the event include Clifton C. Martin, III, CEO, HCAAC; Michael Hale, Director of Modernization, HCAAC; Steuart Pittman, County Executive, Anne Arundel County; Danny Boyd, Chairman, Board of Commissioners, HCAAC.

Meade Village adds 24 affordable apartment serving low income individuals and families. The development includes new two and three-bedroom apartments in two new garden style buildings. In addition, 10% of the units in the community are now accessible and reserved for persons with disabilities.

“As part of our ongoing vision and mission, the Board of Commissioners, staff and partners are excited to complete the conversion of this community. This community is no longer public housing and now serves a vibrant array of families at varying income levels. Adding twenty-four new units is incredibly important, but nowhere near enough to satisfy the demand for housing that people can afford. Our agency has over 25,000 families on our waiting lists for housing services.” Clifton C. Martin, III, CEO, HCAAC.

The community also includes an approximately 5,000 square foot community building with a management office, leasing office, maintenance space and community services. The community building includes separate, dedicated space
for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Anne Arundel County, and an on-site Head Start Center, which provides learning and enrichment activities to benefit children in the community. The community is certified under the National Green Building Standard and Energy Star for New Homes and includes a new playground and green space for enjoyment by residents.

The project was funded through 4% Low Income Housing Tax Credits from the State of Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, syndicated by Royal Bank of Canada and BB&T, and HOME funds from Arundel Community Development Services.
