On June 18, 2024, David W. Lewis of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company (OVFC) received the Smith N. Stathem, Jr. Memorial Safety Award. Since the inception of this award in 1998, this is the first time a member of the OVFC has received the award. This award is presented each year at the annual Maryland State Firemen’s Association Convention and Conference to an individual who does the most to promote firefighter/Emergency Medical Services safety within his/her department/company. The intent of the award is to promote safety within the member departments and to encourage the safety officer program.
